SOUL BAR / NEXT PROJECT >

Client Brief The existing fine dining restaurant is not working due to limited demand for that type of facility. The kitchen is to be retained as are the toilets albeit with limited alterations.
The remainder of the space is to be gutted, and a new, smaller restaurant installed with a larger bar area. Part of the restaurant terrace should be enclosed for all weather use.

Parlante Solution The existing restaurant comprised various levels some of which included a ‘river’ in which gold fish were placed. The design concept presented to the client allowed for both extreme ends of the space to be divided into private rooms should the need arise. The wide screen television and existing gas fire were incorporated into the large, sloping, veneered wall to the southerly end of the bar. The television is recessed from view behind concealed doors when not in use.

Given the restaurant operates for lunch and dinner; a lighter colour palette was adopted. This also allowed for a neutral backdrop to the multicoloured lighting source installed at the edges of the ceiling soffits. Colours include red, green, blue
and white and switching allows numerous combinations. The change in appearance and altered mood of the bar area due to variable coloured lighting is dramatic. Judicially placed art works add to the understated feel of the space.

The major elements included in the fit out and that each contribute to it’s unique appearance include specialist lighting, fibre optic lighting, stainless steel mosaic tiles, Carrara marble, bamboo herringbone parquet, fibrous plaster ‘overweight’ columns to the bar, leather upholstery, ceiling soffits and selected art and exterior lighting. The owners of The Soul Bar and Bistro enjoy the rewards of this now extremely popular Auckland venue.
